Ask Our Experts: FAQs
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat joint problems. Instead of making large cuts, surgeons insert a small camera (arthroscope) through tiny incisions to view the joint and perform repairs using fine instruments. It is commonly done for knee, shoulder, and ankle joints.
Recovery time depends on the type of joint and the procedure performed.
- Minor procedures: You may walk within a day or two.
- Ligament repairs (like ACL): Usually 4–6 weeks of guided rehabilitation.
Arthroscopy allows faster healing, less pain, and fewer complications than open surgery. Regular physiotherapy is an important part of recovery.
CTEV (Congenital Talipes Equino Varus), commonly known as clubfoot, is a condition where a baby’s foot turns inward or downward. It can affect one or both feet and is present at birth. With early detection and proper treatment — usually through the Ponseti casting method — most children grow up walking and running normally.
Treatment should ideally begin within the first few weeks of life. Early correction gives the best long-term results. Delayed cases can still be managed through serial casting, minor surgery, and physiotherapy.
Children’s bones grow from special areas called growth plates. Sometimes due to nutritional deficiencies, injury, infection, or genetic causes, the growth plates may not develop evenly — leading to deformities like knock knees, bow legs, or limb length discrepancies. Early evaluation by a pediatric orthopedic specialist helps correct these before adulthood.
Treatment depends on the cause and severity:
- Mild cases can often be corrected with bracing, exercises, and nutrition.
- Progressive deformities may need guided growth surgery, where small plates or screws gently direct bone growth to restore alignment.
If your child shows uneven walking, limping, frequent falls, or visible limb bending, it’s best to consult early. Pediatric orthopedic evaluation ensures that any correctable condition is addressed while the bones are still growing.
